This is of particular import for the Dodgers because Shohei Ohtani, who did at least have a hit on Tuesday night, really does not look like himself this series. That shoulder is obviously bothering him; this has to be the most he has ever grimaced over a two-game span. The Dodgers may need Freeman to hit like Ohtani has all year. Fortunately, so far, he has been.

He has been laying off those breaking balls outside that he’d been flailing at, and he’s starting to time up fastballs, including just missing one in his next-to-last at-bat in Game 4. He knocked an RBI single in the eighth, once again laying off bad pitches, and he is starting to look locked in. (He even stole a base!)

In the National League Division Series, the Dodgers faced a 2-1 deficit to their division rival San Diego Padres before rallying to take the series in five games. In the National League Championship Series, they defeated the New York Mets in six games to win their 25th pennant in franchise history and return to the World Series for the first time since their championship season in 2020, and the fourth time in eight years (2017–2018, 2020, and 2024). The Dodgers were just the second team in MLB history to face the two New York baseball teams in a single postseason, following the 1999 Braves. The Dodgers were looking to win their eighth World Series title.

Additionally, this was the eighth straight World Series to feature a team from Texas or California. The Houston Astros won AL pennants in 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022; the Los Angeles Dodgers won NL pennants in 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2024; and the Texas Rangers won the AL pennant in 2023.
For the 25th consecutive year, the World Series was televised in the United States by Fox. “No one’s done what we’re trying to accomplish ,” said catcher Austin Wells, “so I think if you put too much pressure on it at this point, you’re going to fail yourself, and you’re not going to enjoy the journey. I think seeing what happens and having fun is where we’re at.”

Westeros and the other lands in the known world are apparently located in their planet’s northern hemisphere: the climate gets colder to the north extending into polar regions, and warmer progressing south towards the equator (it would be the opposite if in the southern hemisphere). Martin has said that Essos isn’t quite as badly affected by the years-long winter seasons because it is closer to the equator, but he has never identified exactly where the equator is — or even if it is known. That is, it is unconfirmed if the equatorial line runs through Sothoryos and the Summer Isles, or, if the equatorial line is even farther away to the south, and is unknown even to explorers from the Summer Isles. Sothoryos has not been fully explored, but a handful of travelers’ reports indicate that it is at least as long north to south as Essos is long west to east.
If the analogous situation holds that Westeros is their word’s equivalent to the British Isles, Yi Ti is the equivalent to China, and only the north coasts of Sothoryos have been explored, this would mean that only less than a fourth of the entire globe is known to men living in Westeros (the northern half of their eastern hemisphere above their equator).
When the successor shows were announced, the Wiki of Westeros asked Martin if the prequels can use this opportunity to update the world maps used in the TV series to match the updated Lands of Ice and Fire version, and he replied “I would vote for that, certainly.”
Game of Thrones’ events occur around 300 AC (Aegon’s Conquest), while House of the Dragon is set around 130 AC, which means the spinoff will reveal what happened in Westeros 170 years before the original series. Officially slated for release on August 22, 2022, House of the Dragon will star King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine), his second wife Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), his brother Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), and his eldest child Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) – who King Viserys names as heir. After Viserys’ death, the Targaryens and their subjects split into two factions: those who want Viserys and Alicent’s son Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) to be the king and those rallying behind Princess Rhaenyra’s claim to the throne. The show will also feature other key players during this era, including Lord Velaryon (Steve Toussaint), Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), Ser Harwin ‘Breakbones’ Strong (Ryan Corr), Lord Jason Lannister (Jefferson Hall), Ser Harrold Westerling (Graham McTarvish), and Grand Maester Mellos (David Horovitch). House of the Dragon will stream on HBO Max.
